As a professional photographer at Foyers Photography, I specialize in portraits, headshots, and commercial photography. Recently, I had the pleasure of working with the talented Kristina Tonev on a classical portrait photo shoot at my studio in Bentwaters, near Ipswich, Suffolk.
During the shoot, we focused on creating classical portraits with Rembrandt lighting, a technique that has been used by artists for centuries to create depth and dimension in their work. Rembrandt lighting is named after the Dutch painter Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, who was known for using this technique to create stunningly realistic portraits.
To achieve Rembrandt lighting, a key light is placed at a 45-degree angle on the subject’s face, with the light source slightly above eye level. This creates a triangle of light on the subject’s cheek, with the base of the triangle pointing towards the subject’s nose. The key light is then complemented by a fill light on the opposite side of the face, which helps to soften shadows and create a more balanced image.
In our photo shoot with Kristina, we used Rembrandt lighting to highlight her features and create a sense of depth and dimension in the final images. The results were stunning, with each portrait capturing Kristina’s unique beauty and personality.
But why do businesses need a good headshot, you might ask? In today’s digital age, a strong online presence is essential for any business. A good headshot helps to establish trust and credibility with potential clients and customers. It allows people to put a face to the name and gives them a sense of who they are dealing with.
A well-done headshot also conveys professionalism and competence, which is especially important for those in industries such as law, finance, and consulting. It’s not just about looking good – a headshot helps to communicate your values and personality to the world.
I love taking clients’ headshots and portraits because it’s a great way to express creativity and capture the unique qualities of each individual. It’s always a rewarding experience to see the final images and the joy they bring to my clients.
Kristina is a very talented artist and it was a pleasure to work with her on this photoshoot. I highly recommend Foyers Photography to anyone in need of a professional headshot or portrait.
