I am Bob Foyers, a commercial photographer based at Bentwaters, Woodbridge, Suffolk. I recently worked with alternative model Saria Goy (@saria_goy) on a portfolio shoot, and it was a genuinely enjoyable one.
Saria is not only a model but also a costume designer who specialises in cosplay, which has built her a strong following. For our session she wanted to bring that work in, so we chose a Lolita theme.
For anyone unfamiliar, the Lolita look originates in Japan and draws on Victorian, Rococo and Edwardian fashion. Think frilly dresses, petticoats, knee-high socks and delicate accessories, with an overall aesthetic that is elegant, feminine and slightly doll-like.
Saria brought a collection of costumes she had made herself, each one true to the Lolita style while carrying her own flair. Working with garments of that quality is a pleasure, and they did as much for the images as any lighting setup.
Throughout the shoot we varied the poses, backdrops and lighting to suit the look. Saria moved easily between expressions and postures and adapted to each change, which made my job straightforward. The result is a set of images that show her off as both a model and a maker.
I would happily work with Saria again. If you are a model, established or just starting out, and want to build or refresh a portfolio, get in touch. You can see more of my work in the portraits portfolio.
