Studio Photography F.A.Q.

I am here to answer all your photography studio questions

Here is a list of frequently asked questions about studio photography. If your question isn’t covered here, feel free to contact me.

The studio is at Base Business Park, Unit 5 Allied House, Rendlesham, Woodbridge, Suffolk, IP12 2TZ. You can call me on 07884 366342. Google map link

There is ample parking at the studio. The entrance has two steps, which is worth knowing if you have any mobility considerations. If you have specific access needs, please get in touch before your session and I’ll do what I can to help.

There are changing facilities, a makeup area, and toilets.

Yes. I carry both professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

I regularly update the blog and website, and I enter competitions and work towards photographic qualifications from time to time. I may want to use some of your images for these purposes, but I’ll always ask for your permission and obtain a model release from you first. If you’d prefer your images not to be used in this way, that’s completely fine.

Because of storage costs, images are kept for up to one year after your session. If you haven’t viewed or ordered within 30 days of receiving your files, they will be deleted.

Under UK law, specifically the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, copyright in any photograph belongs to the photographer. As the photographer, I retain all copyright ownership over the images taken during the session.

Can I copy or scan the images?

Copying or scanning the images without written permission constitutes an infringement of copyright law. If you’d like to discuss using the images in a particular way, please get in touch.

Do you offer digital packages for non-commercial use?

Yes. I offer digital packages that allow you to share your images on a non-commercial basis. The photographs in these packages are for personal use and may not be sold or used commercially without prior agreement.

Can I sell these images to a third party?

No, not without a licence agreement. If you wish to sell or use the images commercially, a formal licence agreement must be negotiated and the appropriate fee paid beforehand.

Yes. All sessions are scheduled in advance at a time that suits you. You can book via my online calendar, or give me a call and I’ll sort something out.

A studio session usually takes around 60 minutes, giving us time for outfit changes and different backgrounds. A location shoot is typically 60 to 90 minutes, giving us enough time to move around and find the best spots.

Yes. I work with a number of makeup artists who are happy to consult with you beforehand to get the look right. Their services are charged separately at their own rates.

Yes, and I actively encourage it. Having people around the studio generally makes for a more relaxed and enjoyable session. The more, the merrier.

Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and like yourself. Casual, neutral clothing tends to photograph well and ages better than trend-led pieces. Avoid heavy patterns, spots, and prominent logos, as these draw the eye away from your face.

Textured fabrics work well, cable knit, denim, lace, chiffon, velvet. If you want to include prints, try layering them with something textured to bring the focus back to you.

I usually photograph clients in up to five outfits, but bringing a wider range gives you more to choose from. I’ll help you decide what works on the day.

Once the session is complete, I’ll set up a secure, password-protected online gallery where you can view and choose your images at your own pace from home. This is usually ready within two weeks of the shoot. The gallery can also be shared with family and friends.

Yes. I work with trusted suppliers for album printing, canvas wall art, and other print types. You can order directly through the secure online gallery. Get in touch if you have specific requirements and I’ll advise.

Yes. You can purchase as many edited images as you’d like. I don’t release unedited files. The per-image rate is tiered, so ordering more images from the session lowers the price for each.

No. I’ll always do my best to produce images you’re happy with, but there’s no obligation to buy if you feel the images don’t meet your expectations.

A family of four fits comfortably, depending on the type of shoot. I’d generally suggest keeping numbers manageable to get the most out of the session.

I’ve been specialising in portrait photography for many years, during which time I’ve photographed thousands of sessions across a range of genres, including family, maternity, newborn, infant, and professional portraits.

Yes. My main backgrounds are white and grey, which work well for most portrait sessions. Other colours can be accommodated on request, though there may be an additional cost.

Yes. I have extensive experience in image editing and can remove or adjust many things. Let me know on the day, or get in touch beforehand if you’d like to discuss anything specific. One thing I won’t do is remove a blemish that I consider part of your natural appearance.

Yes. Each session is shaped around what you want. I can make a range of adjustments in post-production, including colour tinting and brightness. Themes can range from 1950s-inspired to contemporary fashion. Tell me what you’re after and we’ll work it out together.

Makeup and personal presentation are down to you. I can offer advice if asked, but all choices about how you look are yours to make. If there’s something you want to check or change during the shoot, just say so and we’ll pause. I’d suggest looking over your appearance carefully at the start of the session so we’re both happy before we begin.
