I started photography at 14 when my school put a darkroom in the art department. It was basic kit and I was left to figure most of it out myself, which suited me fine. My parents bought me my first proper camera and built a darkroom at home, and I spent most of my free time either taking pictures or developing them.

Before photography became my full-time work, I trained as a chef and served in the Royal Navy. The Navy took me to a lot of places I wouldn’t otherwise have seen. After leaving, I carried on in the kitchen while photography kept growing on the side. Eventually the balance tipped, and photography became the job.

I live near Peasenhall in Suffolk with my wife Karen, who is head chef at a local restaurant. It’s good countryside for photography, the Heritage Coast is on the doorstep, and there’s a lot to explore inland too.

Most of my work is portraits. I’m interested in people, and I like photographs that show some of who someone actually is rather than just what they look like. I photographed my son from birth all the way through to adulthood, which taught me a lot about patience and timing, both useful things in this job.

What I do

I’m a commercial portrait photographer working with businesses, brands, and individuals. My main areas of work are corporate headshots and executive portraits, personal branding photography, family and pet portraits, and commercial photography for businesses of all sizes. I also photograph weddings and civil partnerships.

A lot of my clients come to me for headshots and personal branding, photographs that represent them professionally, whether for a company website, LinkedIn, a speaker profile, or a press kit. Getting that right matters. A good headshot should look like you on your best day, not like a passport photo or something that’s obviously been staged.

For businesses, I work on everything from product and editorial photography to team portraits and corporate events. If you need consistent imagery across a whole company or a specific brief for a campaign, get in touch and we can talk it through.

Studio and coverage

My studio is at Base Business Park in Rendlesham, near Woodbridge in Suffolk, on the former RAF Bentwaters site. It’s a well-equipped space with full lighting control, which works well for headshots, portraits, and product photography. There’s plenty of parking and it’s easy to find.

I work on location as well as in the studio. I cover Suffolk, Norfolk, and Cambridgeshire as standard, and I’m happy to discuss further afield for the right brief. For weddings, I’ve photographed across Suffolk, Norfolk, and Essex.

Photography is the job I’d have chosen if someone had asked me at 14 what I wanted to do. I’m glad it worked out that way.
