Commercial photography F.A.Q.

Here is a list of frequently asked questions about my commercial photography service. If your question isn’t covered here, get in touch.

How does this work?

The first step is a brief from you. A good brief covers what the finished images need to look like, file type, number of images, orientation, and how they’ll be used. This gives me what I need to assess the creative and practical requirements and provide an accurate quote.

My job is to make you and your business look as good as possible, whether that’s through lighting, angles, or choosing the right location.

What are your opening hours?

There are no fixed hours. The nature of the work means a standard schedule doesn’t suit. I work when the project requires it.

Location or studio?

Most commercial photography works best on location. Product photography is the exception, that’s better handled in the studio, where I can control the lighting and background.

Product photography?

Product photography can be done in the studio or on location. You’re welcome to be there on the day, in fact, it can be useful, since you know exactly what the final image needs to show.

Studio location?

Base Business Park, Unit 5 Allied House, Rendlesham, Woodbridge, Suffolk, IP12 2TZ. Call me on 07884 366342 or use the Google map link to find it.

Access to the studio?

There is plenty of parking on site. There are two steps into the studio, which is worth bearing in mind if you have any mobility considerations.

What facilities are available?

The studio has makeup and changing facilities and toilet facilities.

Can you bring your studio to me?

Yes, the setup is fully mobile. It’s worth thinking about the space at your location before the shoot, I’d need enough room to build a temporary studio, and lighting conditions can affect the results.

Can you use my images on your website, blog, or social media?

As part of my standard terms, I retain the right to use final edited images in my portfolio, on my website, across social media, and in competition and award entries. This is standard practice in professional photography.

If you’d prefer your images to remain private, please let me know in writing before your shoot date and I’ll confirm that in writing. I always respect your wishes, but I do need any request of this kind confirmed in writing.

You can read the full standard usage rights.

Image storage?

Images are kept for up to one month after your session. Please make sure you’ve downloaded everything you need within that time.

Who owns the copyright to the photographs?

Under UK law, specifically the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, copyright stays with the photographer. As the photographer, I retain copyright over all images produced during the session.

What usage rights do business clients have?

Business clients are granted a licence to use the images for their commercial operations, including marketing, social media, and internal communications. The licence is non-exclusive and subject to the terms in the formal licensing agreement.

Is copying or scanning the images permissible?

Copying or scanning photographs without written permission from me is a breach of copyright law. If you need to use the images beyond the scope of the original agreement, get in touch to discuss terms.

Can a business client sell these images to a third party?

Resale of images to a third party is not permitted under the licensing agreement. If you need to transfer them to another business or entity, a separate licence agreement would be required and additional fees would apply.

Do I have to make a booking?

Yes. All sessions are booked in advance. You can use the online booking calendar or give me a call to arrange a time.

Are you insured?

Yes. I carry Professional Indemnity Insurance and Public Liability Insurance.

How long does the shoot take?

That depends on the project. I charge by the hour, you can find my commercial rates here.

What happens if I need to cancel, postpone or reschedule?

I’ll do my best to accommodate changes where I can. Things like weather are completely outside anyone’s control and I’m very aware of that. The specific cancellation terms are set out in my terms and conditions, which are sent with the quote.

After the shoot?

Within around two weeks I’ll send you a link to a password-protected online gallery. You can review and select images there at your own pace, and share the link with colleagues if you need to.

Do you do printing as well?

Yes. I work with suppliers covering album printing, canvas wall art, and all standard print formats. Ask me what’s available and it can be ordered through the online gallery. For commercial printing such as roll banners, I’m happy to recommend the companies I use.

How many people can fit in your studio?

Up to a family of four, depending on the type of shoot. I’d suggest keeping numbers to the minimum needed for the session.

Do you edit/retouch the images?

Yes. All images ordered are edited as standard.

I want spots or scars removed from my images, is that possible?

Yes. I’ve been editing images for many years and can remove or adjust a lot. Let me know on the day, or contact me in advance, about anything you’d like changed. My only rule: I won’t remove something I’d consider a natural part of how someone normally looks.

Do you crop the images?

I generally leave cropping to you, since you may need space in the image for text or specific formats. If you need me to crop them, just let me know.

Policy on makeup and attire?

The decisions on makeup and attire are yours. I can offer guidance on what tends to work well in front of the camera, but the final call rests with you or whoever you’ve asked to advise on the day. If you have specific preferences or concerns, let me know ahead of the session so we can factor them in.
