Sometimes you can just feel the love in a room, and that was the case at Denise and Bill’s wedding at the historic Ufford Park, one of Suffolk’s best-kept secrets.
Denise stayed over the night before and got ready at the hotel, which made for a relaxed, unhurried start. We even had a coffee together at the bar to run through the day ahead. I came away with some lovely ‘getting ready’ shots of her and her family, who were all smiles and full of excitement for the day.
Denise looked wonderful in her dress. The subtle lace detailing and long train really caught the eye and made for some lovely photographs.
Bill got ready at home, not far from Ufford Park. As an ex-serviceman, he put his training to good use when the best man turned up with a shirt that needed ironing. If you didn’t know, the first thing you are taught in basic training across all the services is how to iron and polish your boots. I know that well from my own time in the Navy.
As always, the wedding breakfast at Ufford hall was a feast for the senses. Bill’s best man overcame his nerves to pull a great speech out of the bag before handing over to Denise. Denise’s speech was the cue for the brilliant Club Mob singing waiters, who had been patiently serving guests all afternoon, to break into song. They raised the roof and had everyone toe-tapping and singing along. It was a complete surprise to everyone except Denise, her son and me.
If you are planning a surprise at your wedding, my tip is to let your wedding photographer in on it. Because Denise and I had talked it through beforehand, I could position myself to catch all the action, and, more importantly, the reactions of her loved ones.
After the cake cutting came the first dance, and then the party really got going.
It was a brilliant wedding from start to finish and, for once, the day moved gently. No one felt rushed or left standing around, and I’m sure that was down to Denise and Bill’s military-precision planning and the great team at Ufford Park.
