What a day the 19th of May turned out to be. Everything I love about Woodbridge came together: the buzz of a sunny Sunday, the views over the River Deben and the food at The Galley.
Woodbridge’s 38th Charity 10k
The streets hummed with the town’s 38th Charity 10k. It’s a fixture that pulls in the whole town every year, and the hilly two-lap route, lined with supporters, made a great setting to photograph. Uğur Vata had asked me to cover the day, which I was glad to do.
The Galley’s 25th anniversary
The Galley in Woodbridge means a lot to me. Karen, my partner, and I had our wedding breakfast there, so the chance to photograph its 25th-anniversary celebrations felt right. I was there to capture images for the restaurant’s social media, website and press.
The Galley’s international menu is built on Suffolk produce, and Uğur’s commitment to local, seasonal ingredients has made it a bit of a local legend. You’ll find the likes of Bramfield rib of pork and Shrubland Hall venison alongside flavours from North Africa, Sicily and Turkey.
I covered the run from my studio near Woodbridge, and the event’s spirit and organisation never fail to impress me. All of Team Galley, including Uğur’s son George, completed the race. Familiar local faces such as Robert Mabey from the Regatta Restaurant and Pascal Canevet of Maison Bleue added to the warmth of the day.
I didn’t run a step, but the energy still left me happily worn out. I hope my photographs helped mark The Galley’s 25 years in business and did justice to the spirit of the Woodbridge 10k.
If you’re planning an event or a celebration in and around Woodbridge, good photographs are a fine way to hold on to the day.
