Faye has recently returned from university and expressed a keen interest in having a photoshoot. Her desire for an outdoor shoot led us to the beautiful countryside. The theme of this shoot was to capture the serene beauty of nature alongside the contemplative mood of the model, Faye.
Concept and Planning
The idea for this photoshoot stemmed from a desire to showcase the beauty of nature and our good fortune in living in the Suffolk countryside. Faye and I chose Pound Farm in Great Glemham for its perfect access to woods and meadows. A few days prior, Faye scouted the location, which inspired the outfits she brought along for the shoot.
The Shoot
The day of the shoot was overcast, creating a soft, diffused light ideal for our purposes. Despite the overcast conditions, it did not rain, allowing us to proceed without major issues. There was a bit more mud than anticipated, but this did not pose significant problems.
To isolate Faye in the countryside setting, I utilised my favourite lens, the Canon 135mm F2. This lens is particularly stunning for portrait work. I allowed Faye free rein, giving her minimal direction to achieve the desired natural poses and expressions.
Technical Insights
During some of the shots, I used a bit of fill flash to ensure Faye stood out from the background, enhancing her presence in the images. My goal was to keep the editing of the images to a minimum, focusing on capturing as much as possible in the camera.
Creative Process
Reflecting on the creative decisions made during the shoot, I focused on composition, framing, and the use of negative space. The mood aimed to be captured was one of serenity and contemplation, which I worked to convey through Faye’s expressions and poses. There were several interesting moments during the shoot, such as when a gentle breeze added a dynamic element to Faye’s hair and dress, enhancing the overall aesthetic.
Final Results
My favourite shots from the shoot are those where Faye appears most natural. The overcast sky, the lush green of the meadows, and the vibrant colours of Faye’s outfits combined to create striking images. Each photograph reflects the tranquillity of the countryside and the peaceful, thoughtful expression on Faye’s face.
Conclusion
This photo shoot was a wonderful experience, capturing the serene beauty of the Suffolk countryside and the natural elegance of Faye. I am looking forward to future shoots that will allow for further exploration of this beautiful area and different creative concepts.
