As a photographer, I am always on the lookout for new and interesting subjects to photograph. For quite some time, I had an image in my head of a portrait that I had been wanting to take. The idea was of a shy, “little girl lost” dressed in a pretty dress and holding a balloon. I wanted to capture a sense of vulnerability and innocence, and the balloon seemed like the perfect symbol for that.
Eventually, I found my model in the form of Evie, the granddaughter of a friend. Not only did Evie agree to pose for the portrait, but her mum also kindly donated the balloon.
On the day of the photoshoot, Evie and her mum came to my studio, and I was immediately struck by how different Evie was from the shy, introverted young girl that I had imagined. Far from being timid and reserved, Evie was full of fun, vivacious and charmingly cheeky. There was no chance of getting a sombre or serious image here!
Despite the unexpected change in direction, I had so much fun working with Evie and her mum, and I am so pleased with the outcome of the portrait. Evie was an absolute pleasure to photograph, and I will definitely be taking her photo again soon. This time, Evie and her mum will be setting the theme, which is a challenge that I am really looking forward to accepting. Overall, it was a great experience, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such a delightful young model.
