As you may have seen from previous posts I have been taking part in Dogwood 52, a year-long photography challenge, which provides a set theme for each week. This weeks theme was ‘landscape:get low’. So, making the most of the last of our Summer, me and Karen headed down to Walberswick beach, one of my favourite parts of Suffolk. With the sun setting behind us, children swimming in the sea, and the sky turning a wonderful delicate pink it really was idyllic and makes me feel very lucky to live in such a beautiful corner of the world.
That’s what I love about this challenge. Not only am I continually improving my photography skills and testing myself artistically, I am making a weekly effort to meet and enjoy the company of people I wouldn’t normally encounter, or, in this instance, get out of the house and appreciate what we are so lucky to have on our doorstep. Here at Walberswick I find the randomly placed old wood standing in the sea fascinating, like old soldiers gradually decaying with each passing wave. Laying on the beach I shot this on long exposure over 2 1/2 minutes, making the gentles waves blend into a hazy mist over the old wooden structures. It was definitely worth getting a bit sandy for!
