I have just returned from Norfolk and a photoshoot with the team from Sowerby’s – Norfolk’s property specialists. Sowerby’s is co-owned by the founder Max Sowerby and experienced Managing Director Lloyd Sandy. Seasoned professionals, these guys live and breathe property, and it’s obvious they are genuinely interested in and care about their field of expertise.
They are also committed to treating everyone as they would like to be treated themselves. This comes across instantly when you first meet them and is reflected in the way the company looks after both their staff and their clients.
Their success is further cemented by the fact that Sowerby’s have branches at eight different locations across North Norfolk, although this also meant that logistically, the shoot had extra challenges!
I always love making the journey over to beautiful Norfolk, not just for the scenery, but also for the people and once again, I was not disappointed. The amazing staff were wholeheartedly supportive of the project – with a couple even coming in for the photoshoot during their annual leave – which shows the strong team spirit within the company.
The project was really exciting, the brief was for engaging headshots of each staff member designed to engage the reader and show personality. We decided to photograph each staff member at areas well known in their communities. I thought this was a fantastic way of showing the staff in their local towns rather than a more generic office space.
Distinguishing between each individual branch was an important thing to consider – it establishes the branches with their own identity and shows a sense of pride in their local neighbourhood. By using the same chair in each shot, All the branches link together, in line with the high-class branding style Sowerby’s are famous for.
The weather is always a test when shooting outdoors. Wind and rain can really test a photographers skill in getting the shots required. But I actually feel that, in this instance, the classic February weather added texture and tone to the end results which I really love.
