Keith Symons
I’m a designer and photographer based in Cambridge, and over the past couple of years (following a redundancy) I’ve been balancing my design consultancy with growing my freelance photography work.
I’m now moving toward full-time photography and picking up more client projects each week. My design background has always kept me close to the photography world. I studied photography as part of my degree, have collaborated with professional photographers throughout my career, and have been shooting since I was young. But I knew I needed to refresh my studio skills and update my portfolio with guidance from an experienced portrait photographer.
That’s when I found Bob. His studio in Suffolk is not far from me and I was looking forward to a fun drive through the East Anglian countryside, so I booked a workshop session with him and model Mariana.
I went in wanting to deepen my understanding of lighting techniques, improve how I direct and communicate with models, and refine posing for professional portraits, particularly the kind of images clients use for LinkedIn, social media, and editorial features.
Bob was incredibly professional, generous with his knowledge, and full of practical, actionable advice. He created a relaxed environment, offered clear guidance throughout, and stepped in with encouragement whenever it was needed. The session gave me exactly the skills and confidence boost I was looking for.
I left with stronger studio techniques, a refreshed portfolio, and a clearer sense of how to deliver polished, professional portraits for my clients.
