I’ve worked with a lot of talented people at my Suffolk studio, and Courtney from SweetFX is one I come back to often. She’s a makeup artist from Norwich, Norfolk, and she’s been in for portfolio and social media sessions regularly. It’s good to watch her work develop each time.
This session took its cue from the new Barbie film. Rather than the usual pink and glamour, Courtney wanted Barbie with an attitude: punk styling with the signature Barbie look still showing through. We called it the “Punk Barbie”, and the results were exactly the mix of edge and polish she was after.
The right model mattered. Mx Anny Key has worked with us on several past projects, and their look fitted the Punk Barbie theme perfectly.
Working with Courtney is straightforward in the best way. She arrives with a clear vision and plenty of experience, so each session runs smoothly and stays fun.
This was a headshots session, so the focus sat entirely on the makeup rather than outfits. Every shade and technique had room to show.
After a long time in commercial photography, the studio has let me work with all sorts of talent, and this portrait shoot stands out. From Courtney’s makeup to Anny Key’s modelling, it’s a reminder that a brief can be as playful or as bold as you like.
