Networking matters in this industry, so I make time for it. Recently I joined the monthly meet run by East Coast Creatives at Catton Park in Norwich, a day that was as much about collaboration and sharing as it was about the photography.
Catton Park, Norwich
Catton Park is a 70-acre public park in the northern suburbs of Norwich. Its lawns, foliage and lakes give plenty of settings for outdoor work, which makes it a good fit for a group shoot.
About East Coast Creatives
East Coast Creatives brings together photographers, models, makeup artists and hairstylists. The meets are open to everyone from beginners to professionals, and they’re built for networking, collaborating and learning.
A Mix of Skill Levels
The range of experience is one of the best parts. Whether you’re just starting out or have been at it for years, there’s always someone happy to share a tip or an idea.
Learning and Collaboration
I’ve always valued this kind of setting. It gets me out of my routine and into new styles and techniques. This month drew plenty of new faces too, which kept the ideas fresh.
The ‘Boho’ Theme
The theme was ‘Boho’, short for Bohemian: unconventional and artistic, with vintage and folk touches. In portraits it usually means natural light, earthy tones and texture. The models committed fully, with layered outfits, colour and unusual accessories that sat well against Catton Park.
The Portraits
The theme and everyone’s effort meant I came away with a strong set of portraits. The day’s success wasn’t mine alone though; it belonged to a group of dedicated people.
Weathering Success
Luck plays its part outdoors, and the weather held for us, which only helped the results.
Final Thoughts
The day was a good one. These meets are a chance to grow, learn and make connections that lead to bigger projects. If you’re in or near Norwich and interested in photography or modelling, I’d recommend coming along to the next one.
