Courtney and I have worked together on creative shoots more than a few times, so when she got in touch about new headshots it felt like a straightforward conversation. She knew what she wanted, and I knew what to expect from her in front of the camera.
Who Is Courtney?
Courtney is a makeup artist from Norwich and the owner of SweetFX. She is about to start a degree in film and theatre makeup, and she needed images that reflected where her career is heading, not where it has been. That is a fair thing to want from a headshot session.
The Session
We shot in the studio at Bentwaters, and it was one of those sessions that moves at its own pace without any awkwardness. Courtney has been in front of a camera enough to know what she is doing, which makes the process easier for both of us. The brief was clear, the setup was simple, and the session did what it needed to do.
The images are clean and professional. They communicate who she is and what she does, which is the point.
Headshots and What They Are Actually For
A headshot is not a vanity project. It is one of the most practical images a working professional can have. For someone like Courtney, building her own business and moving into a new field, being properly represented online matters. Whether it is a website, a LinkedIn profile or social media, the photograph next to your name is often the first thing a potential client sees before they decide whether to read on.
The good ones are not the most elaborate. They look like the person and make you want to find out more. That is what a headshot session should deliver, and that is what we aimed for here.
