The sun was high and the city was buzzing. It was Pride 2023, in Norwich, Norfolk, and this year I was not just watching. I had been brought on board to document the Snapdragon burlesque group and their part in Norwich Pride.
My day started at the Forum, the hub of the Norwich community. Last year I came as a spectator. This year I was behind the lens, taking in the day more closely than before.
Before the Snapdragon shoot, I photographed some of the attendees (you can find those portraits here). Every face carried a story, every smile the joy of being part of something bigger.
Then I turned to the Snapdragon Cabaret, a Norwich-based burlesque group that lights up the stage. Snapdragon is more than a cabaret. It promotes local talent and champions body confidence. The founders, @mad_dame_stallion, @misstitaniafae2017 and @lady_cleo91, have built a space where artistry meets advocacy.
Documenting Snapdragon’s role in Norwich Pride was an honour. The brief was simple but important, to produce images the group could use to promote themselves, capturing their energy and the part they play in Norwich’s LGBTQ+ scene. This is the kind of commercial photography I enjoy most, work that means something to the people in front of the camera.
The parade was a moving picture of diversity, acceptance and open celebration. The atmosphere was warm and joyful, and I already look forward to next year.
Being part of Pride 2023 felt like more than an assignment. It stands for love, acceptance and pride, and it is a reminder that love is love.

Days like these are why my work as a photographer means so much.
Until next time,
