Last month I had the pleasure of working with Ed, who needed new headshots for his business profiles. Having recently rejoined BUUK Infrastructure as Legal Counsel and Assistant Company Secretary, Ed wanted his professional image to reflect his new role.
It was not the first time I’d worked with Ed’s family, having photographed his husband, Tom, a couple of years ago. Ed brought his charm and charisma to the camera, the session was relaxed, and the results were excellent.
Getting Ready for the Shoot
Ed came prepared, with a range of outfits he thought suitable. I always send a list of suggestions on what to wear and what to avoid for a headshot session, which you can find here. If, like Ed, you feel more comfortable in your normal work attire, bring it along. I am always here to advise.
My job is to create good images that make you feel good, and it is a pleasure to guide clients like Ed to capture their professional side.
Why a Good Headshot and Profile Photo are Essential
Investing in a good headshot and profile photo is not merely an aesthetic choice, it is a strategic professional decision. Here are ten reasons why:
- 1. First Impressions: your profile photo might be the first thing someone sees on your LinkedIn or company profile. A professional headshot makes a strong, positive start.
- 2. Personal Branding: a high-quality photo reflects your professionalism and helps you stand out.
- 3. Builds Trust: a professional-looking headshot conveys credibility, which matters in many professions.
- 4. Networking Opportunities: an approachable, recognisable photo helps break the ice in new professional relationships.
- 5. Consistency Across Platforms: a consistent image reinforces your professional identity everywhere.
- 6. Reflects Your Profession: a headshot can be tailored to express your industry or role.
- 7. Enhances Engagement: a professional headshot brings more views, more interactions and more opportunities.
- 8. Job Opportunities: that extra layer of polish helps you stand out from other candidates.
- 9. Encourages Confidence: a strong image of yourself is a boost to self-assurance.
- 10. International Appeal: professionalism reads clearly beyond language barriers.
The shoot with Ed was a good reminder of the value of a professional headshot, especially when moving into a new role. I wish Ed every success and look forward to updating his headshot in 12 to 18 months. Whether you want to improve your LinkedIn profile or need a headshot for your business, a high-quality image matters. It is not about vanity, it is about establishing your presence in the professional world.
