Working with Ella from Skylos Collective on their latest project was a real pleasure. The collaboration ran smoothly, and the shoot was both demanding and rewarding. Here is how the day came together, from planning to the final frames.
Planning the photoshoot
When Ella and I first talked it through, we knew the day would need careful planning, given the range of shots and the number of dogs involved. The task was to manage time well, capturing Skylos Collective’s products and brand while handling the practical demands of working with animals.
Ella’s headshots
We started with Ella’s headshots. Early mornings often bring out the best in people, and Ella was fresh and full of enthusiasm. The aim was to show her dedication to the brand, professional yet approachable. We used natural light to bring out her features and kept the background simple so the focus stayed on her.
Product photography
Next came the products, and this part mattered. Skylos Collective’s pieces are made from vegan apple leather, an inventive material made from waste residues of the Italian juice and compote industry. We wanted to show the products and the story behind them. Close-ups caught the texture and quality of the apple leather, while styled arrangements placed the pieces in a setting that spoke to their luxury and sustainability. The images needed to carry both the craftsmanship and the ethics behind them.
Photographing the dogs
The afternoon belonged to the dogs, and it was easily the liveliest part of the day. They arrived at different times, which kept the energy manageable and gave each dog its moment. Working with animals is always a little unpredictable, and that is part of the fun. The group ranged from small breeds to large, each with its own character. We wanted to show them wearing Skylos Collective’s products and interacting with them, proving the pieces are as comfortable and practical as they are stylish. Patience and timing were everything, waiting for the moments when the dogs were relaxed and engaged. The results were worth it, both endearing and nicely polished.
Looking back, it was a fulfilling day. Ella’s vision for her brand is clear, and it was good to help bring it to life. We have already started talking about the next project, and I am looking forward to it.
