Empowering Boudoir Photography in Suffolk: A Photographer’s Perspective
Over the years I have worked across a lot of different photography genres, but few mean as much to me as boudoir. My studio at Bentwaters in Suffolk becomes a private, relaxed space for women who want to feel good about themselves, inside and out. That focus on body positivity and self-worth is what sets boudoir apart for me. You can read more about the studio if you are curious about the space.
Working with Becky, a talented hairstylist and make-up artist, has become part of how I run these shoots. We work well together, and the atmosphere she helps create is warm, professional and easy. Her skill and her presence give the women we photograph an extra bit of confidence, and I am grateful to have her on the team.
One such session was with Louisa, who took the plunge and booked a boudoir shoot. These sessions are a celebration of the female form in all its variety. Watching Louisa’s confidence grow through the day was a good reminder of just how empowering boudoir can be.
A session starts with hair and make-up with Becky. I then talk things through with the model, covering poses, themes and any ideas or questions she has. The priority is always comfort, and making sure her personality comes through in every frame. Becky stays on hand throughout, offering touch-ups as well as plenty of encouragement.
A boudoir shoot usually takes around four hours, though I never set a strict time limit in the studio. My job is to photograph the model in the most flattering and honest light, and the clock does not matter when the aim is images she can treasure and, if she likes, share with people she loves.
Boudoir has become popular with brides-to-be and expectant mothers for its intimate, empowering feel. The images become more than photographs; they are a record of the model’s confidence at a meaningful point in her life. Boudoir remains one of the most rewarding types of work I do. It gives women a space to feel at home in their own skin and to celebrate what makes them who they are. With every shoot I feel lucky to play a part in that, photographing the confidence and strength of women at my Suffolk studio.
