When Laura Beardsell-Moore approached me to ask if I could photograph her amazing artwork and do some headshots for her, I jumped at the chance.
Laura studied art and history of art at the Winchester School of Art in Hampshire and completed a Masters degree in contemporary art, criticism and philosophy at the University of Essex before moving to beautiful Suffolk.
Laura is an incredibly talented artist specialising in oil paintings. Her paintings are an attempt to describe a connection with our impermanent and changing world and are inspired by the gardens, fields and woodlands in Suffolk.
One of the things that I love about her art is that she is interested in the beauty and the fragility of the world around us and uses expressive marks, paint splatters and stretching images to describe our fraught relationship with nature in paint.
You can distinctly see how she is influenced in part by environmental events on a global scale and the destruction of natural habitats. Much of her work explores the interesting and sometimes overlooked details of the local landscape and the flora and fauna around us. The idea is that small thing’s matter as much as the big things. You can see some examples of her work here and I have been commissioned to photograph more of her pieces at a later date, which I look forward to.
Photographing artwork is a technical process and luckily one I have plenty of experience in. It requires specific lighting and colour correction so that the photograph is a true representation of that artwork. In these days, often the first glimpse a customer will have of an artist’s work will be online, so it is essential that the photographs are reflective of the piece created. You can find more examples of my commercial photography in my portfolio.
Laura also wanted to work with me on some new headshots. With these headshots, I was able to be a little more creative in order to reflect Laura’s field of work. Laura was a joy to photograph and never stopped smiling. This attitude was reflected in the final images I created which have a very natural and light tone to them which catches the eye without drawing too much attention away from her incredible artwork.
If you would like to work with me to create photographs for your own business or project, please get in touch. Each commission I undertake is personally tailored to your requirements so why not send me an email or call me to discuss your needs.
