Dan and Niomie’s informal garden party wedding was a pleasure to shoot from start to finish. The couple live in Hong Kong and had their legal ceremony there, then came back to the UK for a second service so they could celebrate with all their friends and family.
Being married already might have taken some of the nerves away, but the informal ceremony lost none of its emotion. One of their close friends acted as celebrant for the declaration of their love.
The inspiration was a traditional English garden party, with a Hong Kong twist. The setting was their family home, which suited the couple down to the ground. When I arrived, everyone was playing cricket on the lawn and the children were running about in high spirits, which added to the vintage garden party feel.
The barn where the ceremony took place was decorated with a fun, rustic touch, and coloured bunting flapped in the breeze alongside rainbow ribbons and flowers. The marquee for the wedding breakfast was full of vibrant red lanterns, which matter a great deal in Hong Kong culture, symbolising happiness, longevity and good fortune.
There was so much love for the couple, and I found it a delight to catch the happy faces of friends and family as they celebrated together. Guests were staying in bell tents in the garden, and the crisp white canvas against the green grass made a lovely backdrop. The atmosphere was alive from beginning to end, and I wish Dan and Niomie every happiness.
I love photographing weddings. My informal, documentary style means you will have plenty of natural moments to look back on rather than just the usual formal portraits. If you are planning your wedding, or still looking for a photographer, do get in touch. I have wedding packages to suit all budgets and will happily work with you to get the photographs you are hoping for.
