The end of July brought the fun-filled wedding of a lovely couple, Imogen and Charlie. Together with their families, they tied the knot at St John the Baptist Cathedral, Norwich, a Grade I listed building and a fine setting for the day. The cathedral is one of Norwich’s landmarks and sits high on the city’s skyline.
The grounds made my job easier, giving a handsome backdrop for the group shots, while the stained glass windows brought a real sense of grandeur to the photos of Imogen and Charlie at the altar. The couple were joined by bridesmaids in long, flowing navy gowns, and by Charlie’s two cheeky brothers, who played their part as groomsmen perfectly.
After the ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests headed to Brasted’s, Norwich, for drinks and the wedding breakfast. Brasted’s holds a 2 AA rosette and has a recently refurbished restaurant in the village of Framingham Pigot. Guests were welcomed with prosecco and live guitar while the bride and groom chatted in the sunshine. The rustic table settings and floral displays suited the room; I particularly liked the wooden place names and cake topper, and the scratch card favours. I’m yet to hear whether there were any big winners.
As tradition has it, the speeches followed the meal. I’d like to thank the father of the bride for mentioning me, my first mention in a wedding speech. Imogen’s father thanked me for suggesting he wait at the bottom of the stairs for his daughter, catching that first glimpse of her in her dress. He said he hadn’t realised how emotional a moment it would be, and I hope it becomes a treasured memory of the day.
Congratulations to the new Mr and Mrs Orton, and every happiness as they begin married life. As with every couple I photograph, it was an honour to be part of such a warm, laughter-filled day.
