Easton Grange is a collection of idyllic farm buildings in the heart of the Suffolk countryside, and it was here that I photographed Louise and Tom’s day. The weather was kind as this lovely couple became husband and wife, surrounded by friends and family, not forgetting their little boy Henrik. Louise’s morning began in Easton Grange’s bridal suite, where she and her bridesmaids got ready. Emily, Lynsey, Emma and Anneka were a wonderful support and gave Henrik plenty of loving attention while his mum prepared. Meanwhile Tom got ready at The Crown, Framlingham with his best man and groomsmen, who each took their duties seriously and made my day easier.
The ceremony, in a barn with oak beams and high vaulted ceilings, was a pleasure to photograph. Smiles all round made it clear how loved this couple are by everyone who watched them exchange vows. It was lovely to see the genuine emotion from the father of the bride, Michael, who was in tears at the sight of his daughter in her dress. The warmth from him and his wife Sue was infectious throughout a laughter-filled day. Rich the Pianist played as guests mingled; it is always good to have live music at a wedding. The group shots took place in the manicured gardens. Easton Grange is unusual in that the river Deben runs straight through it, so shots of the newlyweds on the bridge were a must.
For me, it’s the little touches that make a wedding individual, so I always photograph the decor, favours and the extras a couple have put such thought into. Tables were dressed with wildflowers that suited the venue, table numbers sat beside photos of Louise and Tom, and the favours were personalised bars of chocolate (who doesn’t love chocolate?). A polaroid guestbook was another fun addition, and I’m sure the photos grew more daring as the night went on. The cake was simple and elegant, with green ribbons and flowers to match the decor.
The day went without a hitch, thanks both to the professional Easton Grange staff and to the bride and groom themselves. The couple live in Norway, so nothing was left to chance; they even told me which members of the bridal party did and didn’t speak English, which made my day much easier. Thank you, Louise and Tom.
