For any artist, it matters that your work is reproduced accurately for print, digital, and social media. I have had the pleasure of working with local artist Laura Beardsell-Moore, a full-time professional painter who works in oils, capturing animals and flowers inspired by the British countryside. Laura also paints pet portraits, from dogs and cats to horses and even chickens.
Her work grows out of her life in rural Suffolk and her curiosity about the natural world. She wants to create art that helps people feel connected to the countryside and the wildlife that lives there. You will find her paintings on canvases, prints, greeting cards, and a range of home goods.
Laura studied Fine Art and Art History at the Winchester School of Art and later took a Master’s in Art Criticism, Theory, and Philosophy at the University of Essex. She describes her approach like this: “I approach my work like I try to approach my life: with openness, thoughtfulness, and integrity and with a willingness to learn new things. Trying to observe and reflect the beauty, power, and fragility of the environment is my way of celebrating and connecting with it.”
“I hope that by nurturing our relationship with the environment and understanding it better, we can create a more thoughtful and compassionate world. Painting, and sharing my view of the natural world, is my way of doing that,” she adds. Asked to sum up her approach in three words, Laura chose curiosity, compassion, and connection.
Accurate Colour Reproduction
When artwork is reproduced for print or screen, the colours need to be as true as possible. Lighting, angle, and exposure can all change how a colour reads in the final image. My job is to keep the colours in my photographs of Laura’s paintings as close to the originals as I can, which means careful lighting, a considered setup, and precise editing.
Working with artists like Laura is a real pleasure, and it is satisfying to help them show their work well and reach their audience. If you are an artist who needs work reproduced faithfully for print or social media, look for a photographer who understands why colour accuracy matters.
