The Reader

A trans sitter in period costume, surrounded by books and heavy fabric, with a hand raised to their head. The gesture is the picture. Everything around them is somebody else’s story, bound and shelved, and they are sitting in the middle of it working out their own. That is tiring in a way a formal portrait does not usually admit to, so I made it show.
