Hello and welcome to my blog! My name is Bob Foyers and I am a portrait, headshot, and commercial photographer based out of my studio at Bentwaters near Ipswich. Today, I want to talk to you about a recent gel portrait photoshoot I did with the talented model Isabelle.
First, let’s define what a gel portrait is. Gel portrait photography is a type of portrait photography where coloured gels, or filters, are placed over the lights in the studio to create a specific mood or effect in the final image. These gels come in a wide range of colours and can be used to add pops of colour to an otherwise neutral image, create a cohesive colour scheme throughout a series of images, or even create a certain mood or atmosphere.
I love doing creative portrait shoots, and working with Isabelle is always a blast. We’ve worked together multiple times and I really enjoy collaborating with her on ideas and bringing them to life through the lens. For this particular shoot, our goal was to get some powerful, colourful portraits.
To achieve this, we set up a studio portrait shoot with multiple gelled lights. This allowed us to play with different colours and lighting setups to create a range of looks. We started by using a single gel to create a bold, monochromatic effect. Then, we added additional gels to create more complex, multi-coloured images.
One thing I really love about gel portrait photography is the endless possibilities it offers for creativity and experimentation. By simply switching out the gels or changing the placement of the lights, you can completely transform the look and feel of the image. It’s really exciting to see the final results and see how the different gels can completely change the mood and atmosphere of the shot.
Overall, I had a fantastic time working with Isabelle on this gel portrait photoshoot. It was a great opportunity to get creative and try out different lighting setups and colour combinations. I’m always up for a challenge and love pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in portrait photography, and working with Isabelle always inspires me to bring my best work to the table.
