As a commercial photographer, I’ve been privileged to work with some of the most diverse eateries and gastronomic ventures, each with its unique charm and captivating backstory. Recently, I had the extraordinary opportunity to collaborate with Pita Greek Street Food, a lively and bustling establishment tucked away in the picturesque town of Saxmundham.
When Ross, the owner of Pita, reached out to me to capture the essence of their burgeoning business, I leapt at the opportunity. The moment I stepped foot into Pita, I was instantly struck by the raw energy and exhilaration, a testament to their thriving popularity amongst the locals.
Family bonds form the backbone of Greek culture, and this sentiment runs deep in the fabric of Pita. It was heartwarming to see Ross’s father, sister, and even his young children passionately involved in their family business, offering a true embodiment of Greek familial values.
As a commercial photographer, my responsibility is to represent the restaurant’s ethos visually. While photographing Pita in action during their bustling service hours, I admired their unwavering dedication to quality and their commitment to sustainable practices. This wasn’t just a business, it was a love letter to Greek cuisine, street food, and the importance of sustainable and responsible eating.
Pita’s culinary philosophy revolves around authenticity and quality, sourcing ingredients from independent Greek suppliers known for their artisanal products. You’ll find succulent local Suffolk meats on their menu, alongside speciality items like cold-pressed Greek olive oil and classic Bukovo birch-aged chilli.
They’ve also created a menu that respects and celebrates diverse dietary requirements, offering vegan and vegetarian dishes that stand out just as much as their non-plant-based offerings. They’ve managed to redefine street food, drawing on traditional and modern Greek dishes, with some recipes handed down from Ross’s beloved Grandmother, “Gai Gai”.
True to their commitment to responsible and sustainable eating, Pita supports local British farmers, shunning frozen, untraceable products, and environmentally harmful packaging. It’s this ethos of sustainability, combined with their passion for Greek cooking, that promises to bring a culinary revolution to Suffolk.
One of the perks of being a food photographer is the opportunity to taste some of the dishes. After the shoot, I was presented with a takeaway meal that left both my wife, Karen, and I, both former chefs, in awe of the flavours. We wholeheartedly agreed that if you ever find yourself in Saxmundham, Pita is a must-try.
In the end, my time at Pita was not just a photo shoot; it was a profound experience of seeing a family come together in a shared love for food and community. The photographs I captured will soon grace Pita’s social media, their website, and their press releases, further testament to their growing popularity and commitment to quality, sustainability, and community.
