Have you ever observed the fleeting beauty of a sunset in Tunstall Woods? Let me take you through a delightful evening I spent there, capturing the captivating allure of sausage dogs through my lens.
My client for the day was Laura, a vivacious woman with an infectious enthusiasm for life, and her three beautiful sausage dogs: Sesame, Penelope, and Percy. For those unacquainted with Laura, she is a revered dog breeder, operating under the name of PEAPOD DACHSHUNDS. She specializes in breeding smooth-haired miniature Dachshunds, better known to many as sausage dogs. Beyond her breeding endeavours, Laura is an ambassador for Naturediet pet foods and is also the ingenious mind behind the Southwold Sausage Dog Walk, a delightful event usually held in October.
Our rendezvous was set at Tunstall Woods, a location not far from my studio. The reason for our choice? We were on a mission to capture some phenomenal photos of her dogs amidst the stunning backdrop that the woodland provided. The initial plan was to have all three of her dogs for the shoot. However, due to Percy’s advancing age, he was unable to join us. Nevertheless, Sesame and Penelope, the two other sausage dogs, were more than willing to step into the limelight.
As a photographer, I am constantly in pursuit of the perfect light. For this shoot, we decided on the enchanting hues of sunset, which I aimed to balance with flash photography. This was our second attempt at capturing the desired shots – the first had been thwarted by an unforeseen rainstorm. Although we were not granted the most dazzling sunset on our second try, the moody sky added an unexpected and thrilling atmosphere to the shoot.
Photographing dogs can sometimes be a challenge, but I must commend Laura on her exceptional handling skills. Her command over the dogs was apparent, which made my job considerably easier. Additionally, I had the assistance of Cin, a fellow photographer who will be collaborating with me over the summer. Our models for the day, Sesame and Penelope, were beautifully well-behaved and posed perfectly on our makeshift plinth – an apple crate and a fallen tree.
This endeavour was more than just another photoshoot. It was part of a larger project aimed at complementing my sister site, “The Sausage Dog Photographer”. My goal is to offer outdoor dog photoshoots that will complement my existing portfolio of studio pet portraits. I believe the ability to shoot in varied conditions, both indoors and outdoors, adds a degree of versatility to my craft. It allows me to create unique and distinctive portraits, regardless of the weather.
Looking back, the evening spent at Tunstall Woods was indeed a memorable one. Despite some minor hiccups and the absence of the desired sunset, the photographs we captured under the Suffolk sky are a testament to the charm and appeal of sausage dogs. Whether you own a sausage dog or any other breed, I would be delighted to work with you and capture stunning photographs of your beloved pet. I invite you to visit my website, Foyers Photography, and explore the variety of services I offer.
In the end, every shoot, every frame, and every shutter click is more than just an act of capturing an image. It’s a narrative waiting to be told, and this evening, amid the enchanting surroundings of Tunstall Woods with Laura and her beautiful sausage dogs, was indeed a story worth telling.
