I was recently commissioned to take a landscape photograph from a gentleman’s home in the quaint village of Sweffling, Suffolk. This is one I wanted to take my time over and get just right, and so I visited the same spot, as shown in the picture at various times of day over the course of a few months. So often people presume that a photographer ‘gets lucky’ and turns up at just the right moment to capture a spectacular shot. As a rule however, when undertaking a landscape photograph (especially when commissioned), it is essential to spend time planning and considering every aspect, in order to achieve the end product.
In this instance I watched the weather meticulously, visiting in the pouring rain, blazing sunshine and everything in between! I was here at both dawn and dusk documenting the phases of light and studying the view. I was also pushed along knowing that the local farmer would soon be along to harvest the crop, without which the overall image would just not have been the same. On my final visit to the field in Sweffling at dusk the sky turned a gentle pink highlighted by the clouds, and with the lighting perfect I knew this was the moment I had been waiting for.
Now that the customer has seen and bought the photograph I am pleased to share it with you. If there is somewhere that holds a special place in your heart that you would like captured please take a look at examples of my landscape photography and feel free to get in touch to discuss your ideas.
