Kaitland is a young dancer, and she came to the studio to update her profile images. She wanted headshots that showed her energy and personality rather than a flat, neutral portrait, so that was what we set out to make.
Headshots for performers
For a dancer or actor, a headshot does a specific job. Casting directors and agencies look at a lot of images quickly, and yours has to give a sense of who you are and what you bring, not only what you look like. For Kaitland that meant keeping the images bright and warm, so her liveliness came through rather than being held in a stiff pose.
One brief does not fit all
A performer’s headshot and a business headshot are not the same thing. A dancer or actor wants range and a bit of character; a corporate headshot leans more towards calm and confidence. I light and direct the session around what the images are actually for.
If you are a performer who needs headshots, you can see how I work on the headshots page, or get in touch to book a session. For actors specifically, the actor headshots page covers Spotlight and agency submissions.
