A Photo Shoot with Gay Hutchings
In my line of work as a commercial photographer, I have had the pleasure of working with so many creative and amazing people; one of such is Gay Hutchings.
Gay Hutchings is a British glass, print and paint artist based in Lavenham, Suffolk. Her works of art are inspired mainly by nature: using light, rich colours, deep hues, strokes and freedom of expression to create strong and evocative pieces of artwork.
A while back, Gay Hutchings asked me to come to her studio in Lavenham, Suffolk to photograph that contemporary glass art that she makes. Her studio is an interesting delight with an appeal that seems to draw you in to behold.
Every piece of her artwork is a unique statement and was photographed so, with every facet and angle made visible and correctly lit with just the perfect amount of colour and luminance finding its way through.
Gay’s spirit is incredibly stimulating, just like her artwork. When I went to visit her last month, it just happened to be the hottest day of the year so far but this didn’t dampen Gay’s enthusiasm of her glass in any way and she explained each piece animatedly as I photographed. I guess where glass is concerned, nothing else matters anymore, not even the weather
She has a wide variety of original glass pieces, objects and sculptures for sale. She also takes commissions for stained glass windows, public or private buildings and fused glass artwork. You name it, she has it and where you can’t seem to find any art work of your choice, she’ll create it for you!
It was such a pleasure to work with Gay even if on a really hot day!
That is how I relate with every client and at the end of each session or time spent together, the results are picture perfect, just the way they are meant to be.
